Ever heard of the Tawny Frogmouth?

These fascinating birds have a neat fact: both male and female Tawny Frogmouths take care of their chicks together.

Their scientific name is Podargus strigoides, but we'll stick with calling them Tawny Frogmouths for now.

Here's something interesting: Tawny Frogmouths are doing just fine in terms of conservation, listed as "Least Concern." You can find them chilling in eucalypt forests and open woodlands, snacking on moths, lizards, and mice.

Now, let's talk about Old Tawny's story at Kanyana. Old Tawny joined us back in 2002 and quickly became a part of our education team. She had been imprinted on humans, meaning she couldn’t be released back into the wild. But that's okay because she's become a fantastic ambassador for her species, educating visitors about these amazing birds.

Next time you're at Kanyana, be sure to meet Old Tawny, our wonderful Tawny Frogmouth!
