Ever met a Common Brushtail Possum?

These adorable creatures have a fascinating fact: they are excellent climbers and can often be spotted scaling trees with ease!

Their scientific name is Trichosurus vulpecula, but we'll simply refer to them as Common Brushtail Possums.

Here's something interesting about them: Common Brushtail Possums are classified as "Least Concern" in terms of conservation status.

You'll typically find these possums in dry eucalypt forests and woodlands, where they feast on a diet of leaves, fruit, flowers, and insects.

At Kanyana, we have a special possum named Pirate. Pirate came to us as a wild joey with an injured eye. Upon growing up, our vets diagnosed him with microphthalmia, a condition that affects his vision in one eye. Due to this, Pirate couldn't be released into the wild. However, he found a new purpose as Kanyana’s education possum, delighting visitors and teaching them about the life of a possum.

When you visit Kanyana, make sure to meet Pirate and learn more about the fascinating world of Common Brushtail Possums!
